The pandemic has changed customer communication. In this new normal, more and more businesses are trying to adopt digital tools to communicate with their customers for quick, easy communication. And women-owned businesses are scoring higher than their male counterparts when it comes to using digital tools.
According to Meta’s ongoing State of Small Business research program, 57% of women business owners employ digital tools to communicate with their customers compared to 50% of male business owners.
And it is not only customer communication, but women-owned businesses are also selling digitally more than men.
The Meta research program finds 50% of women-owned businesses get their 25% of sales digitally, while only 39% of male business owners are able to do that.
Furthermore, women business owners are also using digital platforms more than men to connect with other business owners. You may be surprised to know that 73% of Facebook groups related to entrepreneurship were created by women last year.
Being a Women-owned Business Owner Is Tough
The pandemic has affected women-led businesses more. Women-led business closure rate has been increased 6% since July 2021, but the men-led business closure rate has seen little to no change.
What’s worse, the recent Omicorn variant hit women-owned businesses harder.
Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer, Meta, said in a prepared statement,
Small businesses led by women face a steeper road to recovery than those run by men. Throughout the pandemic, women-run businesses are more likely to have closed or struggled with cash flow. Our latest survey shows that women have been hit harder during the Omicron wave too. Despite these challenges, many women are finding success by shifting their businesses online.
She further added,
Women are leading the way with the use of digital tools during Covid. Our survey shows women are more likely to make at least a quarter of their sales digitally than men. This women’s history month, we should celebrate and support the entrepreneurs who have not only survived against the odds but thrived.
Why Your Business Should Focus More on Digital Avenues
Be it customer communication or lead generation, businesses cannot ignore the importance of digital avenues.
Small business growth expert, Ramon Ray, commented,
It’s not you but your customers who determine what you should do. Digital holds the key to success these days. Whether a business is owned by a man or woman, it should focus more on digital transformation to meet customers’ expectations. In the new normal, not focusing on digital avenues can hinder your small business’s growth to a great extent.
Digital tools offer multiple benefits. More customers, better financial performance, more innovation, and happy employees are just a few to mention.
However, finding the right tools can be challenging for small businesses. This is because the market is overcrowded with digital tools, and all of them claim to be good-to-buy for small businesses.
