National Go For Broke Day is celebrated annually on April 5 and marks a day on the calendar to double down on efforts to pursue Career Ownership, despite obstacles that may be in your path. Americans are tired of suffering from Battered Career Syndrome^®. Individuals who suffer from Battered Career Syndrome are exhausted from climbing the corporate ladder and feeling beaten down by working at a job that offers little to no job security and high employee turnover.

While the past year created challenges for many hard-working Americans, it also gave them a chance to find the work-life balance they craved. Teleworking allowed many people with corporate jobs to cut their commutes and add more hours to the day. One in four Americans said the pandemic led them to consider a job or career change, according to an online survey of 5,000 people by Morneau Shepell, a provider of human resources services.

“Go for Broke” is the motto of the Army’s 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a World War II unit made up of Americans with Japanese ancestry, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. The unit garnered numerous accolades on the battlefield, and more than 450 Japanese-American soldiers received the Congressional Medal of Freedom in 2011 to celebrate their heroic service. The soldiers were recognized for their courage, sacrifice, equality, humility and patriotism. The first medal of honor recipient, Pfc. Sadao Munemori, was killed in action near Seravezza, Italy, on April 5, 1945.
